Anchored Hanky Panky

Anchored Hanky Panky

The Hanky Panky is a delightful twist on the classic martini, offering a sweeter profile with the addition of sweet vermouth and a touch of fernet—a bold, herbal bitter liqueur—finished with an orange twist.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ oz Anchored Spirits American Gin
  • 1 ½ oz sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes fernet (about ¼ oz)
  • Ice
  • Orange twist, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Fill a mixing glass with ice and add gin, sweet vermouth, and fernet.
  2. Stir well for about 30 seconds until well chilled.
  3. Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass.
  4. Garnish with an orange twist, expressing the oils over the drink before placing it in.

Tip: Adjust the fernet to taste if you prefer a bolder or more subtle herbal bitterness.

Enjoy this classic cocktail with its perfect balance of sweetness and complexity, just as Ada Coleman intended.

This iconic cocktail was crafted by Ada Coleman, one of the rare female bartenders of the early 20th century. As head bartender at The American Bar at the Savoy Hotel in London, Coleman created the Hanky Panky to satisfy a patron in search of something with a little extra punch.
